2. Education and Professional career

· BSc. Mathematic Faculty, Hanoi University of Technologies, June 1982.

· PhD. Institute of Information Technology, Vietnamese Academy of Science and Technology, May 1977.

· March 1983-now : Member of the Department of Pattern Recognition and Knowledge Engineering, Institute of Information Technology-Vietnamese Academy of Science and Technology.

· October 1988 –August 1990: Institute of Machine Engineering, Russian Academy of Science.

· June 1995 - August 1996: Fellowship at UNU/IIST (International Institute for Software Technology of the United Nations University).

3. Activity history

· 1988-1990: Research fellow in the Institute of Machine Engineering, Rusian Academy of Science.

· 1995–1996: Working in UNU/IIST Macau in the project “Decision Support Systems for Sustainable Development” as research fellow and investigating the problem of Map Generalization - one of important aspects of Cartographic Generalization.

· 1992-1999: Leader of the team developing MAPSCAN software - Automatic Maps Data Entry.

· 1998: Manager of the project “The fundamental of Fractal geometry and its application for image compression” of the Vietnamese Academy of Science and Technology.

· 1999-2000: Manager of the project “Design and testing Implement the software Automatic Data Entry Systems-MARKREAD” of the Vietnamese Academy of Science and Technology.

· 2001 to 2002: Manager of the project “An Approach of Optical Mark Recognition” of the Vietnamese Academy of Science and Technology.

· 2003: Manager of the project “Investigating methods of Content Based Image Retrieval” of the Institute of Science and Technology.

· 1996-now: Teaching a series of undergraduate courses in computer science at universities in Vietnam such as Image Processing, Pattern Recognition, Computer Graphic, Data Analysis, Artificial Intelligence, RAISE Language, etc.

4. Current Project / Research.

· 2001-2003: Managing the sub-project KC0103, a national project for “Automatic Data Entry System”.

· 2004: Managing the project “Investigating methods of Online Restricted Handwritten Recognition”.
